LOCKER ROOM
Garage Gym
Coach is proud to show off his garage gym! Great for all compound movements, and he is adding more equipment every year. For example, recently got some farmers walks!
Gym Chalk
Coach loves his gym chalk, and knows he can grip alot of weight with using it. Here he demonstrates how to put on the chalk. He has used it for years to deadlift, learning the importance of chalk getting ready for a powerlifting contest. But it is also good for farmers walks, one arm deadlifts, and other grip strength exercises.
Need new gym clothes?
Yep coach loves using gym chalk in the gym, especially for building his grip strength for those awesome deadlifts and farmers walks!
And he is proud to show off his new company logo, Powersmith! T-shirt and other clothing will be available very soon on this website.
Squats!
The King of lifts, squats, stimulates the whole leg and is great for testostorone production in men. Coach has always had a love-hate relationship with them. But since he used to compete, he knows the importance of doing them and for leg growth! Yup he likes training with chains also, as they add great resistance.
And yes, he uses chains in his workouts and coaching in person at his garage gym :)
The Beach!
Where does Coach go to relax and chill? The beach! Specifically his favorite, in Texas, is South Padre Island. What an incredible place, with so much to do there now. And yes, some great restaurants there as well!
Coach in his garage gym
Coach loves his Powersmith poster and logo, thanks to a great friend in Seattle! He coaches his clients at his garage gym, as he has a good, basic gym for the compound exercises as well as some strongman equipment, and good cable machine for back, arms etc.
Coach doing leg press
Coach likes to squat and leg press on leg day. Using his knee sleeves, he knows his knees are protected on heavy presses as shown, and is confident on the pushing up of the weight. Leg press is awesome as you can change your foot position on the machine to hit inside or outside of your quads and is also a great 2nd exercise to squats!
Coach putting on knee sleeves (Copy)
So while putting on boots for leg day, Coach is all about protecting his knees with knee sleeves, as he is still doing squats and leg press etc at his age. And still does not have any knee issues. Thus he definitely advocates wearing these knee sleeves for leg day. And are also good to use on the shins for deadlift/back day!.
Coach hiking his favorite hill
Besides weightlifting or powerlifting, cardio is needed in the exercise regimen. And coach loves to hike in Austin, with all the wonderful parks and trails to check out. Always elevation is wonderful for getting heart rate up, and seeing a great view usually at top of hill.
Coach doing Hyperextensions
Coach is working on his core strength here with Hyperextensions. Note that he is at full extension here, as he will head all the way back down and come up using his glute and lower back strength.
This exercise is so good for a strong lower back which is imperative for squats and deadlifts! You can also hold weight where his arms are crossed for more resistance.
One leg hamstring curls
Coach is doing one leg hamstring curls here. This cable exercise is great to focus on each leg as you curl up the leg as shown. Also, you can really squeeze the hamstring on each leg to get a good pump to help the growth. Finally, one leg hamstring curls allow you to do drop sets to lower the weight and get more curls in for pain and strength gains!
Coach spotting client doing Floor Press
Coach is spotting client doing Floor presses here. These are excellent for building up tricep strength, as your elbows hit the ground mid way down, so will work on the lock out of the bench press, thus strengthening the triceps. Everyone into powerlifting or just general weightlifting should do these to grow their bench press!
Coach doing Reverse Hypers
Using the Reverse Hyper machine, which is awesome for building core strength in your glutes, hamstrings, and lower back. Note the weight is down raised here, but you start with your feet on ground and lift weight up to parallel with your body. When you do that, you are strengthening your core and the glutes and hamstrings. This lift is wonderful to grow your squat and deadlift as it directly hits those muscles needed for these 2 lifts.
Wide grip pulldowns
Coach Smith doing wide grip pulldowns to grow the width of the back. Note that his grip is not on the ends of the bar, but rather more toward the middle. This hits the back at a different angle than always putting the hands on the very end of the pulldown bar. Good to vary your grip!
Doing Deficit Deadlifts
Deficit deadlifts are great for improving depth in your deadlift and to help you have force to lift the weight up from ground. Excellent for building hamstring strength!
FARMERS WALK WITH TELEPHONE POLES
Farmers walk is so good for grip work, growing trap and forearms, and finally, cardio work. I think a combination of strength and cardio is fantastic.
